Invalid activity — traffic or clicks that don't represent genuine user interest — is one of the fastest ways to damage an ad account, whether it's intentional, accidental, or coming from a source you don't fully control.

Where invalid traffic usually comes from

  • Bot traffic from scrapers, uptime monitors, or low-quality traffic exchanges.
  • Accidental clicks encouraged by ad placement too close to navigation elements.
  • Third-party traffic sources (ad networks, incentivized traffic, pop-under redirects) that don't disclose their own quality issues.
  • Employees or site owners clicking their own ads, even out of curiosity.

Practical prevention steps

  • Never click your own ads, and make sure staff understand not to either.
  • Avoid paid traffic sources that don't guarantee human, organic visitors.
  • Keep ad placements a comfortable distance from navigation buttons and interactive elements.
  • Review Ad Manager's invalid traffic reports regularly rather than only after a policy notice.

If you get a policy warning

Take it seriously immediately — investigate traffic sources from the flagged period, remove anything questionable, and respond to Google's request for information honestly and specifically. Vague or defensive responses tend to slow down resolution.

How AdPulse helps

Traffic quality review is part of every account audit we run. We flag risky sources before they become a policy issue, not after.
