This is the third guide in our Ad Manager setup series, following account setup and your first order and line item. Here, we create the actual ad unit that inventory gets served through.

Creating the ad unit

  • In Ad Manager, go to Inventory and select Ad units.
  • Click New ad unit, and give it a clear, descriptive name matching where it'll appear on your site.
  • Set the ad sizes it should support — matching your actual page layout, not a generic default list.
  • Save, and note the ad unit code generated — you'll need it for tag implementation.

Downloading a sample tag

From the ad unit's detail page, use the option to generate tags. Ad Manager will produce a sample implementation file you can download and use to test the ad unit in a controlled environment before rolling it out live.

Testing before going live

Use the sample file on a staging page first. Confirm the ad renders at the expected size, doesn't break the page layout, and that test line items serve into it correctly before connecting it to real production pages.

Next step

Once your ad unit is tested and working, Guide #4 covers implementing the tag specifically on WordPress — or reach out to AdPulse if you'd rather we handle deployment directly.
