If your site spans several subdomains — a blog, a forum, regional editions — blended account-level numbers can hide big differences in how each one actually monetizes.

Setting this up correctly starts before reporting

Subdomain-level reporting depends on how your ad units and inventory are structured. If every subdomain shares the same generic ad unit, there's no way to separate their earnings after the fact — so this is worth planning at setup, not just at reporting time.

Building the report

  • Structure ad units (or use custom key-values) so each subdomain is distinctly identifiable in the ad request.
  • In Reporting, add Ad unit (or your custom key-value) as a dimension.
  • Filter or group by the subdomain-specific values to isolate performance.
  • Compare revenue per session or RPM across subdomains, not just raw totals, since traffic volume varies.

Using the results

A subdomain with high traffic but low RPM might need a monetization review — different content type, different audience, different optimal ad density. A smaller subdomain with strong RPM might be worth investing more editorial effort into.

How AdPulse helps

We help publishers structure their inventory correctly from the start so subdomain-level (and content-level) reporting is actually possible, not something bolted on after the fact.
