Account-level revenue numbers hide a lot of detail. Breaking earnings down by ad unit shows exactly which placements are carrying the account and which ones are barely contributing.
Building the report
- In Ad Manager, go to Reporting and start a new report.
- Add Ad unit as a dimension, and choose Ad Exchange revenue (or total revenue, depending on your setup) as the metric.
- Set your date range — a rolling 30-day view is usually most useful for spotting trends.
- Save the report as a template so you're not rebuilding it each time.
What to look for
Sort by revenue and look at both ends of the list. Top performers show you what's working — worth replicating elsewhere. Bottom performers are candidates for repositioning, resizing, or removal if they're not earning their space on the page.
Going one level deeper
Add device category or country as a secondary dimension to see whether an ad unit's weak performance is universal or concentrated in one segment — which changes whether the fix is layout, pricing, or demand coverage.
How AdPulse helps
We build these breakdowns as part of every account audit, and use them to prioritize exactly which placements to fix first for the fastest revenue impact.
